Adventure novel set mainly in Australia whose heroine is a woman searching for her missing husband. The original title of the novel was to be Lady Franklin, as Jules Verne wished to write a tribute to all women in general and to Sir John Franklin's wife in particular, who devoted her life to finding her husband who disappeared on the path to conquering the North Pole and also devoted her entire fortune to this cause, unfortunately in vain.

Fourth and best edition of this famous collection of costumes. Graesse,VII, 267: "This new edition reproduces exactly all the costumes figured in the first three, but this time drawn more correctly by M. Seguin and engraved on wood by M. Huyot". It contains 513 plates of costumes engraved on wood in various frames; the text itself in Renaissance-type frames. The whole is printed on fine wove paper. Each double page has a costume and its caption opposite in Italian and French.

It was in 1590 that Vecellio published his collection of costumes (ancient, medieval, Renaissance) from all nations. The subjects were redrawn and re-engraved for this enterprise, Firmin Didot explains this in his "Notice on the fourth edition". This is obviously an iconographic source of primary importance for the history of costume and fashion.

Written in 1894 and appearing for the first time in 1898, Le Superbe Orénoque is an adventure novel about a girl in search of her father. The novel is based on the stories of the explorer Jean Chaffanjeon who made several trips to Orinoco River and in this part of the world (South America) from 1884-1886.

Art critic and political journalist, his comic and satirical novels earned him great renown, notably Le roi des montagnes. Le Trente et quarante is a game around which loves will form and dissolve. This vaudeville later became a musical comedy filmed by Grangier in 1946 with Martine Carol. Carteret: "Interesting publication".

The particularity of this binding is that it is actually the portrait binding for L'île à helice whose red title cartouches on the first board and spine have been masked by new labels, as can be noticed by running one's finger over the cartouches where one feels a thickness. This type of alteration has been observed on other titles. The depletion of stock while the new chosen bindings would be those "Au globe doré" surely led to these small modifications, very rare and curious for the collector.

It is illustrated with 365 compositions in lithography & engraving, in color and camaïeu, including 37 full-page color plates outside the text under tissue guards, 15 engravings and 22 lithographs. Very numerous monochrome vignettes in the text and decorated initial letters. The editing and printing are particularly fine.

It was in 1888 that James Tissot had a sort of mystical crisis; this revelation of his faith led him to Palestine and Jerusalem, from which he brought back 365 watercolors with which he created this work, a true artist's book. This religious period of his work brought him immense fame; most of the originals are in the Library of Congress in the United States, purchased in 1902, the year of the painter's death, by the Brooklyn Museum.

Commander Fernel (1793-1854) was attached to the general staff of the African army; he recounts in this work with legitimist tendencies the history of the taking of Algiers. The last chapter is devoted to the particularities of the region: date palms, sugar cane, pomegranates, camels... This campaign, as we know, would have considerable repercussions on the French presence in North Africa. At the end, the copy has been extra-illustrated with the section of L'Univers pittoresque on Algiers, written by Rozet, captain of engineers, which contains 7 steel-engraved plates.

In this novel, Jules Verne returns to adventure and recounts the incredible adventures of his reporter hero during his train journey on the line from Ouzoun-Ada (in Turkey) to Beijing. One notes with amusement the presence of a German baron attempting to travel around the world in 39 days.

An original print by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec from the Le Café-Concert series, published by Publications de l'Estampe Originale. A very rare and handsome lithograph, one of 500 original proofs printed on vélin paper by Edouard Ancourt printers.
Portrait of Mary Hamilton by Toulouse-Lautrec. This cabaret singer is here presented in full flow, dressed in men's clothes. Lautrec was fond at this time of lithographic ink, drawing simple lines full of movement, reminiscent of Japanese ukiyo-e prints.
A veritable ode to the café-concert, this series by Toulouse-Lautrec and Henri-Gabriel Ibels captures the essence of the Parisian lifestyle and the vitality of its nights. The plates are accompanied by a pamphlet by the writer Georges Montorgueil singing the praises of these establishments so wrongly looked down on, which he calls “a tonic for modern life.” Far removed from the heavy atmosphere of theatres and concert halls, these “carefree”places saw a real boom during the Belle Epoque and launched the careers of some remarkably modern artists.
The two painters here produced portraits of the most famous cabaret stars at the time, caught in the movements of their “epileptic choreographies” or the grace of their poses. The big names in cafés-concerts, including Jane Avril, Yvette Guilbert - Toulouse-Lautrec's muse - or Aristide Bruant are shown in direct and confident aspects, inspired by Japanese woodcuts. The influence of Impressionism is also discernible in the finer details – the style being in vogue at the fin du siècle. Toulouse-Lautrec had been a regular fixture at the Salon des Indépendants since 1889 and had shown there his view of Parisian high society, traversing society salons and the city's brothels as well, not to mention cabarets like the Moulin Rouge, for which he designed a poster that has remained famous to this day. Another master of posters and draughtsmanship, Ibels would work with the Éditions de l'Estampe Originale several times, including on a series of drawings of the circus. He was also the creator of numerous illustrations for popular newspapers, known for his dynamic and incisive style.

A second part containing, in addition to the house, public buildings, would appear in 1843, then a third part in 1849 on country houses and rural constructions. A collective edition from Liège in 1849 would include these three parts, but a fourth part on interior and exterior decorations of buildings would be published in 1853. This first volume bears no indication on the title page of volume numbering or part, because undoubtedly at the time it was published, the volumes to come were not yet planned or decided upon.

The work is the account of a journey by Smet, a missionary Jesuit priest, along the Colombia river, which runs from Canada to the United States. Smet undertook this voyage to the Athabasca river, arriving at Fort Augusta on the 1st January 1846. On another trip, he went back to Fort Vancouver. He finally left again in July and stopped at the mission of Saint Marie before travelling down the Missouri. The work contains a deal of information on the area of Oregon and on Native Americans, including their costumes, habits, and beliefs.
