First edition, alternately illustrated by Gorguet and Fau with initial letters and tailpieces in black, and 10 superb full-page compositions in black with colored and gilt borders. One of 30 copies on Japan paper, the only deluxe edition, No. 12 numbered and signed by Monnier. Original wrappers preserved under an orange tissue sheet (rarely present).
Contemporary full bordeaux morocco binding. Smooth spine decorated with 4 small fleurons and blind and gilt fillets. Wide decorative border frame on boards. Interior frieze. Raw silk endpapers. Light rubbing at head and to 2 corners.
Handsome copy, uncut, full-margined, with fresh paper.
Collection of 10 ribald tales, some vaudevillesque, others set in the Orient. The cover bears the title upside down written in mirror image.
