First edition of this treatise, published following the four volumes whose editorial dates run from 1782 for the first volume to 1788 for the last, namely the Traité de l'aimant, which is therefore often missing from the series.

The Traité de l'aimant is the last work published during the author's lifetime and closes the Histoire naturelle whose edition spanned fifty years, and which enjoyed success comparable to Diderot and d'Alembert's Encyclopédie. The treatise proper is followed by numerous tables of observations on the inclination of the magnetic needle (with the names of travelers and navigators), in the southern and northern hemispheres, according to different latitudes... The treatise begins with an exposition of magnetic and electric forces.

First edition of this volume 14 of the Essais de morale, whose volumes appeared separately and whose publication spanned several decades. Copy entirely ruled.

Pierre Nicole was, with Antoine Arnauld, one of the principal authors of Jansenism. Gouget drew upon several manuscripts, notably the memoirs of Nicole's greatest friend, to write a detailed history of Nicole's life, whose purpose is not to draw a portrait but to establish the actions and facts of his existence. At the beginning of the work, a complete bibliography of P. Nicole's works.

A handsome illustrated edition and one of the first printed by Gabriele Giolito de Ferrari, dedicated to the Dauphin of France. It has a superb engraved title with Giolito's printer's device (a phoenix being reborn from its ashes on a globe marked with the printer's initials), 56 attractive woodcuts and numerous large ornate capitals, as well as a portrait of Ariosto after Titian in a medallion at the end of the poem, and two states of the printer's device.
The end of the work is made up of a vocabulary of obscure words and an explanation of the difficult passages in the work compiled by Lodovico Dolce, with a separate title and not included in the pagination. Giolito published more than twenty books in thirteen years of printing – this is the third edition of this work, the first appearing in 1542 and the second in 1543.

Late 17^th or early 18^th century red morocco, spine richly gilt in six compartments, one compartment marked with “lettres rondes [round Roman type]”. Covers with a frame of triple gilt fillets, gilt roulette frame to insides of covers, all edges gilt. Binding a little rubbed, faint dampstaining to end of volume.

Elegant red morocco binding by Semet & Plumelle, spine in five compartments, date at foot, gilt roulettes to head- and tail-pieces, red moiré silk pastedowns, marbled endpapers thereafter, gilt fillets to edges of covers, covers and spine (slightly soiled) preserved, top edge gilt; slipcase edged in the same morocco, the boards of the same marbled paper, lined with light brown felt.
This copy is enriched with two autograph notes from the author.
A very good, well-margined copy, superbly bound in an outstanding lined binding by Semet & Plumelle.

Contemporary full brown straight-grained morocco. Smooth spine decorated with large Romantic tools with date at foot. Covers with large blind Greek key border and gilt fillet frame. All edges gilt. Decorative gilt board-edges. White watered paper endpapers. Spine uniformly sunned, turned brown. One corner rubbed. Several gatherings browned. Handsome copy nonetheless, in contemporary morocco.

One of Curmer's famous and beautiful publications, who had just published in 1838 one of the most celebrated Romantic books: Paul et Virginie. An essential literary figure from the mid-19th century onwards, La bedollière, formerly a bohemian alongside Baudelaire, whom he frequented at the café, here gives his first collection of short stories; he is one of the models of the journalist-writer (he would contribute numerous articles to Les français peints par eux-mêmes) who would make writing a lucrative profession. He is talented, possesses a fine pen, but devoid of any genius.
