First edition for both works bound together. Near-contemporary bindings signed at foot "Descham"; in red morocco for the spines and green for the boards. Smooth spines decorated with gilt compartments and fleurons as well as a signature at the bottom of each volume. Gilt roll-work framing the boards. Gilt rolls on the edges and headcaps. Fine gilt dentelles framing the marbled paper pastedowns. Some worming, mainly at the foot of the spines. Elegant copy combining two colors. Descriptive and didactic poetry in imitation of Ovid's Fasti, The Fastes are this author's most famous work, who was also a playwright, and whose versification skills opened the doors of the French Academy to him. The author relates various customs connected to each day. The Pièces fugitives gather various pieces.
