Typed letter dated and signed in blue ink by Fernandel, addressed from his Marseilles property "Les milleroses" to his great friend the Provençal writer, caricaturist and filmmaker Carlo Rim, who was also his biographer.
(24 lines, creases inherent to folding for mailing as well as in the left margin).
Fernandel first conforms to the courtesies of New Year wishes: "Obligé de commencer ma lettre comme la tienne (par correction), je te présente mes meilleurs voeux pour toi et tous ceux que tu aimes." ["Obliged to begin my letter like yours (out of courtesy), I present my best wishes for you and all those you love."] before signifying that he will not delay in sending him the exhaustive list of his filmography, Carlo Rim wishing to write a biography of his friend Fernandel: "... afin que tu puisses avoir des choses vraies à raconter..." ["... so that you can have true things to tell..."]
Finally, Fernandel returns to an article published in Cinémonde and written by Alice, Carlo Rim's wife, for whom he harbors vindictive memories: "... dis-lui de ma part, qu'on ne peut pas écrire de plus grandes conneries, car d'après son papier, j'ai été imposé dans le film d'Aron... et qui m'avait démandé si cela ne me faisait rien d'avoir Gaby Morlay comme partenaire..." ["... tell her from me, that one cannot write greater nonsense, because according to her article, I was imposed in Aron's film... and who had asked me if it didn't bother me to have Gaby Morlay as a partner..."], Fernandel concluding his letter with a peremptory: "... mon cher Carlo, je te supplie de ne pas prendre ta femme comme collaboratrice pour le livre, car alors..." ["... my dear Carlo, I beg you not to take your wife as collaborator for the book, because then..."]

Typed letter dated and signed in blue ink by the illustrator and caricaturist Sennep, on Figaro letterhead, addressed to his friend the Provençal writer, caricaturist and filmmaker Carlo Rim, congratulating him on the Cross of the Legion of Honor which was recently awarded to him.
April 24, 1962,
all my most affectionate congratulations! J. Sennep", these few words being accompanied by an original drawing by Sennep showing himself applauding the Cross of the Legion of Honor that was awarded to his friend.

Handwritten signed photographic postcard from Tristan Bernard addressed to his friend the Provençal writer, caricaturist and filmmaker Carlo Rim who was notably the friend of Fernandel, Raimu and Marcel Pagnol but also of André Salmon and Max Jacob (21 lines in black ink on Hotel Windsor letterhead in Cannes).
A small pinhole at the head of the photograph showing all the affection that Carlo Rim had for his venerable friend Tristan Bernard, having certainly hung this postcard in his home.
The postcard shows Tristan Bernard facing forward with his handsome and imposing beard. On the verso, he added:
"Le monsieur du verso, c'est évident, c'est sûr... c'est le plus beau vieillard de la Côte d'Azur.
Je vous embrasse bien affectueusement chère Alice et cher Carlo. Tristan Bernard." ["The gentleman on the back, it's obvious, it's certain... he's the most handsome old man on the Côte d'Azur. I embrace you both very affectionately dear Alice and dear Carlo. Tristan Bernard."]
During the Occupation, Tristan Bernard took refuge in Cannes and resided at the Hotel Windsor while his friend Carlo Rim offered in vain for him to stay at his home so that he would be safe from denunciation or arrest; to which Tristan Bernard, never short of witticisms, replied: "At my age, one no longer sleeps away from home!" adding: "Do you know that I appear in the Petit Larousse? They don't arrest someone who appears in the Petit Larousse."
He was nevertheless arrested in September 1943 as a Jew and interned with his wife at Drancy then released through the intervention of Sacha Guitry and Arletty the following month.
His grandson François-René was also arrested as a Resistance member and deported to Mauthausen where he died.
