Rare collection, in first edition, of political texts relating to the affairs of Belgium (shaken by the Brabant Revolution since 1787) and the Netherlands (whose opponents of the Stadtholder had often taken refuge in France).

As indicated by the handwritten table bound at the beginning of the volume, this copy constitutes only the first of a series of collections compiled by Roederer (see below) from the memoirs and pamphlets he received while serving as a member of the Constituent Assembly.

First edition of Pierre Le Tourneur’s French translation, published in Paris by Buisson in 1787, in two quarto volumes. It appeared the same year as a more common three-volume octavo edition issued by the same publisher. The work is illustrated with a folding frontispiece showing a view of the Cape, a large folding map of the Cape and 15 hors-texte plates, several folding. In the present copy, the plates have been bound at the end of volumes I and II. Some still bear the indication “Tom. III”, inherited from the pagination of the octavo edition, showing that the two authorised editions circulated with the same engraved plates.

French-language Dutch edition of the Six Voyages, published in Utrecht in 1712 by Guillaume Vande Water and Guillaume & Jacob Poolsum, one of only three French editions of the work printed outside France between the original Paris edition of 1676 and 1724, the others being Amsterdam 1678 and The Hague 1718.
