First illustrated edition, published in 1898 under the imprint of the Librairie des Bibliophiles, textually reprinting the first edition of 1838. The work is illustrated with 24 original colour lithographs by Alexandre Lunois. One of 100 deluxe copies on Japan or China paper, this copy on China paper, no. XLIII, numbered in ink and justified; the total edition was limited to 600 copies, the remaining 500 on Marais wove paper.

L'Histoire du Chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut, by the Abbé Prévost. First edition with these illustrations, comprising 15 watercolours by René Lelong, engraved on copper in wash and stipple by Jean-Antonin Delzers in the manner of the 18th century, and printed in colour by register.

One of 100 deluxe copies on blue-tinted Arches vellum, no. 122, for which the justification calls for an additional suite printed in a single colour; this suite is not present in the present copy.

New edition, illustrated with 10 etchings by Léopold Flameng and engraved by André Salmon. A handsome edition, carefully printed on Dutch laid paper. Title pages in red and black.

Contemporary half-shagreen binding with corners. Spine with raised bands decorated with gilt compartments and inlaid with a central black fleuron. Gilt titles and date at foot. Separating fillets on boards. Top edge gilt. Uncut copy.

A very fine copy in superb condition.

Fourth collective edition for the first part and third for the second and third parts, published by Corneille himself. Our copy is adorned with the frontispiece of the first two editions (dated 1645), and the portrait of Corneille by Michel Lasne, dated 1644.

First French edition, rare. Translated by Etienne François de Sennevert. A fine printing on handsome laid paper.
Contemporary full polished mottled calf, smooth spines richly decorated with gilt tooling in compartments and rolls, black morocco lettering-pieces, tan morocco volume labels, triple gilt fillet borders on the boards. Some surface abrasions to the boards, joints, and borders. Slight brown waterstain in the upper margin of the preliminary leaves of volume 1. A small loss at the foot of volume 4. Headcap of volume 2 lightly worn. Loss at the lower joint of volume 1. Despite a few minor defects, a very handsome copy.

Copy with the cipher of Marie Amélie d'Orléans, wife of Louis-Philippe, who also used a simple monogram for bindings from the time he became king. Some of the almanacs were directly bound by the publisher for the royal family, these copies often bear simple marks, the publisher not having the stamps belonging to the sovereigns. Nothing formally attests however that this is a copy for Marie Amélie d'Orléans, it is on the other hand certain that this copy was intended for a member of the royal family whose M is the first name. Rare edition of this bawdy tale, complete in two parts published separately. It is illustrated with four wood-engraved vignettes, borrowed from Decameron of Boccace (Venice, 1531) and ingeniously twisted to suit their context. This edition is the first text of the author and is unique in that it has not been corrected. The book will be translated in French only in 1792.

Near contemporary red half morocco over marbled paper boards by P. Ruban, spine in six compartments, raised bands bounded by black fillets, date gilt at foot of spine, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, covers preserved, top edge gilt.

Attractive ex libris engraved by Provost-Blondel on pastedown, representing a helmet with a feather, medallion and a strip with the motto “Tojours en face.” The ex libris belonged to Victor Coué, a 2^nd Lieutenant killed in the First World War.

The rare French first edition, illustrated with 9 folding plates containing 22 figures. The first edition, in Italian, dates from 1765. Two manuscript leaves in fine handwriting are bound at the rear on the properties of gunpowder, with a comparative table of tests for sulphur, saltpetre and charcoal.

Later binding, ca. 1830, in full glazed navy calf. Spine with raised bands handsomely decorated with central tool and corner tools in each compartment, roulette at head and foot, geometric roulette on bands, repeated as interior border.
