"La Revue Libre, a clandestine review, published in February 1944 an anonymous Lettre à un Ami allemand. It was by Camus. By Camus, too, was the second letter that appeared at the same date, under the pseudonym Louis Neuville, in the Cahiers de la Libération. Together with two others, which had remained unpublished, these letters make up the small volume Lettres à un Ami allemand, published in 1945, after the Liberation." (Henri Perruchot, La haine des masques. Montherlant, Camus, Shaw, 1955)
