The first volume contains the Odes and Epodes and the second the Satires, Epistles and Ars Poetica. Michel de Marolles was an indefatigable translator who made available to the general public the works of Antiquity. His bilingual, critical and annotated editions ensured his success. While they earned him criticism from his peers for the accuracy of his translation and notes, they successfully ensured the penetration into culture of Greek and Latin works through the excellence of the editions.

Interesting collection comprising 63 pieces, mostly relating to the bull Unigenitus, along with occasional pieces: an Ode to the King of 1744, a Eulogy of Mignard to Le Brun, the Ceremony and Consecration of the Church of Saint-Sulpice, a mazarinade, Gacon’s Nouvelle satire contre les femme, medical writings such as the Abrégé de l'hopital des enfans-trouvés. The first volume has been extra-illustrated with a cartouche of Babel serving as a frontispiece, repeated in the second volume.
