First edition, rare. The 30 plates show views and remains of Rome, Pratolino, Naples, Vesuvius Crater, Pisa, Lake Como, Terni, Arona, Ferrara, Tivoli, Paestum, Salerno, Lake Maggiore, Cadenabbia and Florence. The plates have different dimensions but most: 15.5x21cm, 17x25cm. Original chemise in grey-brown heavy paper with the plates loose inside. The upper cover has been used as title page. One leaf with the list of the 30 lithographs. Some pale foxing. The spine with several tears, mainly 11cm at center. Plate 12 with restorations to small marginal tears on verso. Old adhesive traces to inner joint. Handsome copy in original condition, full-margined. Jean-Baptiste Isabey was one of the first artists to introduce lithography into French art. (Brunet III, 460). He skillfully exploited the resources of lithography in light effects and the vaporous aspect of certain scenes.
