    Second illustrated edition. It benefits from a new printing with substantial modifications to the text and engravings. The 6 polychrome plates are printed in dominant tones of blue, greenish, pale. The later edition with red medallion will have only 3 polychromes out of 6. 52 illustrations by Benett.
    Publisher's binding known as "Aux feuilles d'acanthe", with gilt ground medallion. Good first plate, with slight discoloration on the outer border. Spine with small lacks of cloth, like spots, on the title label, at foot and headcap. Second board fairly good but with 2 areas as if scratched. Corners lightly rubbed. Fairly good copy, overall fresh, with pale reddish-brown halos on title page and in margins of some leaves.
    In this novel, Jules Verne returns to adventure and recounts the incredible adventures of his reporter hero during his train journey on the line from Ouzoun-Ada (in Turkey) to Beijing. One notes with amusement the presence of a German baron attempting to travel around the world in 39 days.

    The work is also embellished with an engraved portrait of Edmond Haraucourt pasted on a guard.
