First printing of Tony Johannot's illustrations consisting of 13 hors-texte plates (including the frontispiece) and 100 vignettes engraved on wood.
Bradel binding in blue half-cloth, smooth spine decorated with gilt fleuron, gilt date at foot, marbled paper boards, corners slightly bumped.
A repaired tear in the margin of page 129, the first two engravings (the frontispiece and the following one) have been remounted with adhesive strips, some foxing.
Printed bookplate and a bookseller's description label pasted on an endpaper.
