First edition in octavo illustrated with 2 maps, 12 large chromotypographies, 6 full-page photographic reproductions, (39 illustrations engravings and documents including photographs), by Georges Roux. Publisher's Hetzel binding with golden globe, signed Blancheland plate, bound by Engel, spine with lighthouse, second board of Engel "h" type according to Jauzac. Fine first plate with well-marked and brilliant gilding. Light soiling in the cartouche. Small scratches in the sky. Some rubbing on the outer red border. 2 corners slightly bumped, the corners folded. Spine sunned, but with gilding well preserved. Rubbing to headcaps. Second board good, with soiling. Copy slightly warped. Scattered foxing. Good copy. This adventure novel takes place in New Zealand and New Ireland, on a ship that rescues two castaways: the Kip brothers, Dutch. The vessel is bound for Papua.
