Contemporary half calf bindings with brown corners signed Pivoteau at the foot of volume I. Smooth spine decorated with 2 large mirror tools at head and foot, within frames. Cold-rolled borders on boards and corners. Wave-pattern paper boards. Marbled edges. Scattered foxing. Fine copy in Restoration binding.
Headcap of first volume very slightly damaged with small loss, some stains on lower spine of the last three volumes. Foxing not affecting the plates.
Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait and 9 hors-texte plates by Devéria, as well as 120 grotesque figures hors-texte engraved on wood by Thompson at the end of volume 9.
