    Contemporary half calf bindings with brown corners signed Pivoteau at the foot of volume I. Smooth spine decorated with 2 large mirror tools at head and foot, within frames. Cold-rolled borders on boards and corners. Wave-pattern paper boards. Marbled edges. Scattered foxing. Fine copy in Restoration binding.
    Headcap of first volume very slightly damaged with small loss, some stains on lower spine of the last three volumes. Foxing not affecting the plates.

    Contemporary half chocolate glazed calf with small corners, signed at foot by Pivoteau relieur. Smooth spine decorated with 2 mirrored tools at head and foot, curved and straight fillets. Minor damage at foot of volume 3. 2 lower corners slightly bumped. Rubbing. Scattered pale foxing.
    Handsome copy attractively bound in an elegant signed binding.

    Eugène Devéria (1805–1865) was one of the major painters of the Romantic movement alongside Eugène Delacroix. From the start, his submissions to the Salon attracted notice, culminating in 1827 with la Naissance de Henri IV [The Birth of Henry IV], which enjoyed considerable success. He continued to depict historical scenes, notably Puget presenting his Milon of Crotone to Louis XIV...

    Half brown morocco bindings with corners, spines slightly lightened with four fine raised bands set with gilt dots decorated with double gilt compartments richly decorated, gilt friezes at head and foot, traces of rubbing on joints, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, corners slightly bumped, contemporary bindings signed by Bibolet.
    Some light foxing, library classification labels pasted opposite half-title pages.
