Illustrated edition with 92 original compositions engraved with burin by Albert Decaris including 38 hors-texte plates, one of 55 copies on Imperial Japan paper, deluxe copies after 30 handmade white Japan paper. Full brown morocco binding, spine very slightly faded with three raised bands, beveled boards, front board ornamented with the large plate of the original copper that served for the illustration of the work's frontispiece, endpapers and pastedowns of Japanese paper, frame of two black and gilt morocco fillets on the pastedowns, all edges gilt, covers preserved, superb binding signed M.T. Aigner. The subscription fascicle written by Henry de Montherlant is bound at the end of the volume. Our copy indeed contains a suite of the large compositions on China paper and not on Rives as indicated in the printing justification. Our copy is exceptionally enhanced with an original gouache by Albert Decaris, which is the frontispiece of the work. Handsome copy perfectly executed in a full morocco binding by M.T. Aigner with a plate of the original copper of the frontispiece and an original gouache by Decaris.
