Contemporary half glazed navy calf binding. Spine with raised bands elegantly decorated. Author, title, volume number and date in gilt. Top edge gilt. Some traces of rubbing on the raised bands. Borders slightly rubbed. Some corners rubbed. Lower right corner of volume 1 having received an impact. Fine laid paper perfectly fresh (some foxing on the first engraving of volume V). Uncut copy.
This edition was made from the Paulin edition of 1842. Carteret (Le trésor du bibliophile): "There exists a suite of 48 line engravings, unsigned, which are added to this edition..."
