First editions of the first two volumes, illustrated with two frontispieces, two engraved title pages, and sixty fine steel-engraved plates after drawings by Thomas Allom.
Publisher's original red cloth bindings in Bradel style, covers richly decorated with gilt borders and central gilt-stamped designs signed J. M. Kronheim on the upper cover of each volume, smooth spines decorated with gilt figures, gilt lettering for titles, volume numbers and publisher's imprint, all edges gilt. Minor rubbing and soiling to the bindings, spines faded, some foxing throughout, ink inscriptions erased by scraping from the front pastedown of each volume.
