Edition superbly illustrated with a portrait, 2 engraved titles and 118 plates and a map. The portrait of Robert Burns as frontispiece to the first volume is most often missing. Publisher's binding in full red grained cloth. Smooth spine richly decorated with a large special panel titled Caledonia Illustrated with the Scottish lion at head and foot. Gilt edges. Headcaps sunken. 2 tears along the upper joint of volume I, one on the upper joint of volume II. Small dark stain on the upper board of volume I. Magnificent illustration work by William Bartlett and Thomas Allom which leads the reader through romantic and picturesque Scotland.
