First edition illustrated with a large woodcut title vignette, a frontispiece and 14 out-of-text plates on steel and strong paper, with tissue guards. Fine English engravings by Harding, Prout and Bartlett.
Contemporary full red sheep binding signed Rivage. Smooth spine decorated with a long composition of floral tools and rocaille ornaments. Boards stamped in blind with a large ornamental panel featuring foliage scrolls, birds, and mask, with a plain central piece; gilt and blind frames. Edges gilt. Rich interior border. Some rubbing. Dedication inserted in error by the binder in the introduction, without consequence.
Very handsome copy, fresh overall.
