Autograph letter signed by Jules Janin dated January 11, 1847. One sheet with folding marks, on the verso. Monsieur Moreau. Jules Janin apologizes for being unable to accompany his friend Moreau to Joinville, as he is "chained to the ankle of the feuilleton". The one nicknamed "The prince of critics" bore the glory of having written 2,240 weekly feuilletons in newspapers (mainly in the Journal des débats); he thus testifies in this missive to the relentless work for which he was responsible. Pierre Moreau, also a journalist, later wrote about Jules Janin. Although his action was severely criticized by literary historians, Janin is the product of an era and traversed the literary 19th century with fierce conservatism, preferring Béranger to Heine.
