Full fawn morocco binding, smooth spine, boards adorned with a design of undulating gilt and silver fillets forming a large spiral, embellished with onlaid black morocco pieces and additional gilt and silver fillets depicting small waves; black suede endpapers and doublures, bordered by five gilt fillets and a repetition of the cover design on the doublures, subsequent marbled endpapers, original wrappers preserved, chemise edged in fawn morocco with black paper sides. A superb Art Deco period binding by Pierre Legrain.
Having established himself as a binder in 1922, Pierre-Emile Legrain was a decorator, furniture designer, and, since 1917 at the request of Jacques Doucet, creator of Art Deco bindings.
