The first part of Féerie pour une autre fois having failed to achieve the expected success, Céline wished to surround the release of the second part - Normance - with maximum publicity and restore his reputation after his years of exile in Germany and Denmark. Wishing to distance himself from the solemn form of the publisher's slip, he proposed to Gaston Gallimard this eulogy written in the manner of an imaginary interview between himself and Professor Y alias Colonel Réséda, a prostatic old man. The text of this zany « interviouwe » would be published in several parts in the Nouvelle Revue française in 1954 before appearing in volume form in 1955. The writer speaks with fervor about his style, his conception of literature and vehemently criticizes the literary world and public taste.
Second collected edition of Victor Hugo's works published by Furne after the Renduel edition of 1833-1836; it is illustrated with 35 steel engravings. Les contemplations published in 1856 (first edition with a mention of second edition) was added to this edition. The Furne edition spans from 1840 to 1846. Le Rhin indeed appears in first collected edition at this date.
This edition, originally published in installments, was verified and corrected by Hugo himself. It was initially intended to form only 12 volumes (which are most often found alone); volume 9 bis was added later where Ruy Blas is reprinted, and the 3 volumes of Le Rhin following. Furne had bought out the Renduel bookshop, the first publisher of Hugo's complete works from 1832 to 1840, as Hugo's writings then stood.

Dialogue novel featuring a young Italian noblewoman during the Renaissance, raised as a man for succession reasons. Gabriel will be confronted with the hypocrisy of society and rebels against the abyssal difference between the rights granted to men and the oppression reserved for women. The author analyzes with irony the differences in education between girls and boys. Balzac, enthusiastic upon reading the work, did not hesitate to compare it to a Shakespeare play.

Prehistoric novel featuring one of the best-known characters from Rosny Aîné's prehistoric universe, Vamireh. In his wanderings, he encounters Elem, a young girl from another tribe, whom he captures. He must fight this clan to keep his conquest. We find the author's incredibly dense and lyrical style, typical of this fin de siècle period. With different groups of hominids, Rosny Aîné is the only and first author to give a plausible and realistic version of prehistory.
