Edition illustrated with 68 illustrations by George Roux including 20 large chromotypography engravings and a card. Catalogue Y in-fine. Hetzel publisher's board signed Engel also known as a type 4 “au globe”, spine with a lighthouse, Engel type “i” second board according to Jauzac, all edges gilt. First plate a little rubbed, as well as the spine. Volume a little warped. Le Sphinx des glaces is a fantasy novel, which is intended as a sequel to the novel by Edgar Poe - to whom it is dedicated -, Les Aventures d'Arthur Gordon Pym, published in 1838.
