First octavo edition illustrated with 92 illustrations by Benett including one colored map plate: this marks the first appearance of polychromy for an illustration in a Jules Verne novel. Publisher's Hetzel binding "aux deux éléphants" in full red percale cloth signed Lenègre type 3, front board signed Souze, back board Lenègre type "e" as indicated by Jauzac, minute white spots at center of back board in the publisher's medallion, original blue endpapers, all edges gilt. EL catalog at rear. Some minor traces of discoloration at left margin of front board, spine lightly sunned as is often the case, some light foxing, original endpapers of intact blue, edges gilt. "Deux ans de vacances" is a robinsonade featuring fourteen schoolboys from New Zealand.
