First edition octavo illustrated with 92 illustrations by Benett including one color map hors-texte: this is the first appearance of polychrome illustration in a Jules Verne novel. Publisher's Hetzel "two elephants" binding in full red percaline signed Lenègre type 3, front cover signed Souze, back cover Lenègre type "e" as indicated by Jauzac, spine with lighthouse, original blue endpapers, all edges gilt. EL catalogue at rear. Some very slight whitish traces on the spine and back cover and two tiny tears at head of front cover and head joint of back cover. Scattered foxing mainly at beginning and end of volume, as usual. Original endpapers in pristine blue. Deux ans de vacances is a robinsonnade featuring fourteen schoolboys from New Zealand.
