First edition of this poem by Georges Fragerolle set to music by himself and performed for the first time at the famous Montmartre cabaret "Le Chat noir" by Rodolphe Salis on January 21, 1896, where he was the regular pianist alongside Erik Satie. Publisher's sand-colored paper boards, smooth spine, covers illustrated with a large design representing the Giza Pyramids site surmounted by the dream of a Pharaoh's soldiers, endpapers and pastedowns with floral-patterned paper. Work illustrated with 17 full-page lithographs by Amédée Virola. Some rubbing to edges and corners, copy lacking its very fragile illustrated dust jacket. Handsome copy.
