New collected edition, with some parts in first edition as expanded with a large number of unpublished pieces and preceded by an essay on the life and writings of the author by Armand Carrel. Half caramel calf bindings, smooth spines set with gilt and black fillets decorated with gilt friezes, black calf title and volume labels, joints with some traces of rubbing, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, contemporary bindings. Work illustrated with a portrait of the author engraved by Ethion as frontispiece to the first volume but lacking its folding facsimile frontispiece to the fourth and final volume. Foxing. Handsome copy, complete in four volumes, uniformly bound by a contemporary hand.
