New collective edition, partially a first edition as it was expanded with a great number of previously unpublished pieces and preceded by an essay on the life and writings of the author by Armand Carrel. Half bottle-green shagreen bindings, spines slightly faded with four raised bands set with triple gilt fillets decorated with compartments and quadruple gilt fillets, gilt friezes at head and foot, marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, bookplates pasted on pastedowns, speckled edges, contemporary bindings signed by Corfmat. Work illustrated with a portrait of the author engraved by Ethion as frontispiece to the first volume but lacking its folding facsimile frontispiece to the fourth and final volume. Some foxing. Handsome copy, complete in four volumes, uniformly bound by a contemporary binder.
