First collected edition. New edition of the French translation by Charles Baudelaire, forming the seventh and final volume of his complete works, one of the very rare copies printed on Holland paper, the only deluxe issue. Followed by the French translation of Eureka, also by Baudelaire. The text is preceded by a preface by Théophile Gautier. Minor restorations to the margins of the covers and to the foot of the spine. The work was sold separately or as the seventh volume of Charles Baudelaire’s complete works, whose publication extended over three years. One of the exceedingly rare copies on Holland paper, the only one we have traced preserved in wrappers, as published. Fewer than ten copies are believed to have been printed.
