First edition large octavo illustrated with chromolithographic plates by George Roux. Publisher's Hetzel binding "with pasted portrait" in full red cloth signed A. Lenègre, polychrome front cover signed Souze depicting various means of locomotion (balloon, locomotive, ships), a sepia-toned portrait of the author pasted in the center, various navigation instruments heightened in gold in the foreground, back cover type "e" as indicated by Jauzac, spine decorated with several illustrations in color and gold, original blue endpapers, all edges gilt. HF catalogue at rear. Spine very slightly faded and some scattered foxing. Joint cracked at head for a few centimeters on back cover. Maritime adventures recounting a treasure hunt, taking the hero from Tunisia to the Gulf of Guinea, then to Scotland, to Spitzberg Island, and finally to Sicily.
