First edition on ordinary paper. Drawings and watercolors by Rossi and Myrbach. Figaro edition.
Contemporary half navy blue morocco with corners. Spine with raised bands richly decorated with bouquets of foliage. Original wrappers preserved. Gilt fillets on boards. Top edge gilt. Spine sunned, uniformly turning blue-green. Micro crack to upper joint at head. Scratch to upper right corner, bumped and re-colored. Foxing spots on dedication otherwise perfectly fresh throughout.
Armorial bookplate: Count de Launac.
One of Pierre Loti's great successes, which would inspire Puccini to compose the famous Madame Butterfly.
