First edition of the French translation, one of 300 numbered copies on Lafuma vellum. Rare autograph inscription by John Dos Passos, in English and dated 1945, to the pataphysician Maurice Saillet. At the age of twenty-three, Maurice Saillet became the assistant and associate of the bookseller, publisher, and poet Adrienne Monnier at 7, rue de l’Odéon. There he met Gisèle Freund, and discovered André Gide and James Joyce. After the war, he founded, with Maurice Nadeau, Les lettres nouvelles and published numerous unpublished texts by Alfred Jarry; he also issued the complete works of Lautréamont.
