One tear to the third volume in the last compartment. The Duke's usual binder was Affolter, but no binding is signed. Original wrappers preserved.

    First editions of these two pieces.
    The corsair Le Spartiate gave chase to two vessels flying American flags, the Charles and the Mary; the ships were brought back to port and their cargo confiscated. The Bordeaux tribunal, compliant in the matter, declared the cargo of both ships lawful prize, invoking dubious reasons even though America was in no way numbered among France's enemies, thus permitting the chase and seizure of the ships' goods. The captains were Irish, which provided material for the defense.
    Our copy, presented in wrappers without covers, was apparently removed from a binding.
