Théodore Roland de Bussy (1810–1873) pursued an administrative career in the colony, rising to the post of conseiller de préfecture, and was highly active in the field of language studies, publishing some ten bilingual lexicons, including the celebrated Idiome d'Alger (1838), likewise reissued on numerous occasions.
