Manuscript postcard enhanced with André Malraux's signature written from Bombay to their friends Minka and Karl Hans Strauss, 13 lines in blue ballpoint pen. The postcard shows a reproduction of Hindu sculpture. "Chers amis, que c'était beau ! Nous vous embrassons affectueusement, Sophie..." ("Dear friends, how beautiful it was! We embrace you affectionately, Sophie...") Separated from his wife Madeleine at the end of the 1960s, André Malraux began a second relationship with the writer Louise de Vilmorin and moved in with her at the Vilmorin château in Verrières-le-Buisson. After her death on December 26, 1969, André Malraux continued to live at the château with Louise's niece, Sophie de Vilmorin, who became his last companion and cared for him until his death on November 23, 1976.
