Wonderful copy with 89 illustrations added from several Racine illustrated editions: a portrait by Santerre, 12 engravings after Gravelot (most of them before lettering, from the 1768 edition of Louis Cellot), a second portrait by Saint-Aubin, a portrait of Boileau, 50 engravings, mostly after Robert and Stéphane-Barthélémy Garnier (some before lettering, Edition Le Nomant 1808) and a set of illustrations by Barbier l'Aîné; 12 engravings by Moreau Le Jeune (Edition Crapelet 1811) and 12 engravings after Desenne by Simonnet (Edition Didot 1803). Printed on large wove paper.
Straight grain glazed green morocco binding (end of XIXth-century). Elaborately gilt spine, red morocco volume and title pieces, multiple gilt borders on covers, gilt fleurons in corners, inner gilt dentelle, all edges gilt. 2 scratches to the back cover of volume two, some to the first cover of volume 5.
A splendid and perfectly fresh copy.
