Autograph letter dated and signed by Emile Littré (17 lines in black ink) to friend and publisher Louis Hachette regarding his dictionary.
Folding traces inherent to postal dispatch. A manuscript notation in pencil at the head of the letter: "A Albert"
"Mon cher Hachette,
veux-tu me faire la largesse d'un exemplaire de plus du dictionnaire ? Je t'en serai très obligé. J'ai encore 40 pages à relire pour parfaire la 5e livraison. Cela sera fini dans les 10 premiers jours de juin. On pourra la donner à cette époque... [...] Ton vieil ami, ELittré." ("My dear Hachette, would you be so generous as to provide me with one more copy of the dictionary? I would be very grateful. I still have 40 pages to proofread to complete the 5th installment. This will be finished in the first 10 days of June. We can deliver it at that time... [...] Your old friend, ELittré.")
