First collected edition large octavo illustrated with 38 drawings by George Roux as well as 6 large chromotypographies and a map. Publisher's Hetzel binding signed Engel called "au globe" type 3, spine with lighthouse, second cover type Engel "h" according to Jauzac, all edges gilt. Headcaps slightly sunken as generally, upper left corner of first cover creased, corners very slightly frayed, original blue endpapers marginally lightened as usual. Le Village aérien is a fantasy and adventure novel taking place in the African jungle. Two white explorers accompanied by a native and a black child discover an unknown people, who live in the trees. The geopolitical evolution perspective of the territories where the intrigue unfolds allows understanding of the evolutionist debate raging in the 19th century. Les Histoires de Jean-Marie Cabidoulin relates the adventures of the Saint-Enoch, a whaler leaving Le Havre bound for the Pacific Ocean. Among the crew, an old pessimistic sailor constantly tells his companions the most dreadful stories about the ocean and its monsters. Then mysterious events occur, increasingly frequent.
