Publisher's full brown cloth binding, smooth spines illustrated in black with African landscapes, gilt publisher's imprints at foot of spines, front boards decorated with black illustrations depicting African landscapes and stamped at their centers with a map of Africa crossed by the gilt Livingstone river framed by the two gilt lakes Victoria and Tanganika, yellow paper endpapers and pastedowns, corners slightly bumped. Work illustrated with 2 frontispiece portraits, 8 maps, 2 large folding maps contained in a pocket at the end of each volume, as well as 33 plates and numerous illustrations in the text. Two small black stains on the rear board of the first volume. Handsome copy.
