Edition abundantly illustrated with original vignettes and plates by Raffet. Handsome and famous Romantic illustrated work.
Half black shagreen binding, smooth spines decorated with Romantic rocaille ornaments, frame of two gilt fillets on the aubergine paper boards, endpapers and pastedowns of crosshatched dark blue paper, corners rubbed. Rubbing to headcaps, contemporary Romantic binding. Occasional light spotting on clean white paper. Of note, the presence of three childish drawings made as tracings on the verso of three plates. Each plate is protected by a pink tissue guard.
Work illustrated with 80 wood-engraved plates and a steel-engraved frontispiece as well as numerous in-text wood vignettes.
