First edition illustrated with 15 etched portraits by Jeanron. The portrait of Camille Desmoulins appears before letters. A few discreet marginal pencil annotations, likely in Champfleury’s hand. Some occasional foxing. Bradel binding in olive green half cloth, flat spine decorated with a gilt fleuron, double gilt fillet and date at foot, tan shagreen label, marbled paper boards, original wrappers preserved despite some marginal losses, corners rubbed. This copy includes all 15 engravings depicting the most illustrious figures of the Montagne. Provenance: From the library of Champfleury (no. 519 in the catalogue published by Léon Sapin in 1890), then from the library of Archibald Philip Primrose, fifth Earl of Rosebery, with his engraved bookplate mounted on a pastedown: "Honi soit mal y pense" and his "Rosebery / Durdans" stamp at the top right of the title page. He served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
