First edition in French, translated by Charles Baudelaire, of which there were no large paper copies. Elegant dark red half morocco over marbled paper boards by Dreneau, spine in six compartments, gilt date to foot of spine, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, covers and spine (repaired) preserved, top edge gilt. A rare copy, free of foxing and nicely bound in a modern binding retaining the covers – unlike most copies, which were modestly bound at the time.
