Purple 3/4 morocco binding signed 'Petit, successeur de Simier' (on top of first flyleaf) ca 1860. Smooth spine elaborately stamped in gilt with Romantic designs. Author, title and date stamped in gilt. Morocco edges framed in gilt. Uniformly lightened spine. Top edge gilt. Some slight rubbing to raised bands and corners. Paper mainly bright and crisp.

Along with Hernani, Ruy Blas is Victor Hugo's most sought-after theater play.
