Autograph letter dated and signed by Pierre Mac Orlan (13 lines in turquoise ink) to his young friend the beginning poet Roger Valuet. Fold marks inherent to postal handling, a small tear at the head of the letter at the letterhead. Pierre Mac Orlan must decline the presidency of a meeting to which Pierre Nord and Roger Valuet had invited him because he will be detained in Honfleur, where scenes from one of his novels will be filmed, probably Marguerite de la nuit, adapted for cinema: "Il s'agit d'un film inspiré d'un de mes livres et il faut que je sois là entre le 5 et le 9 juin pour participer à ce travail..." ["It is a film inspired by one of my books and I must be there between June 5th and 9th to participate in this work..."] The film Marguerite de la nuit would be directed by Claude Autant-Lara with, in the main roles, Michèle Morgan and Yves Montand. Originally from Arras, Roger Valuet is a popular writer who signed, under the pseudonym Roger Vilard, numerous detective and espionage novels. At the beginning of his career, he was helped by Pierre Mac Orlan who wrote the preface for his first collection of poems.
