Original blue endpapers marginally shaded as is usual, turn-ins of the second board completely split, those of the first board are split at the top. A very small trace of pen on the second board. Top spine-end slightly rubbed.

Le Sphinx des glaces is a fantasy novel, which is intended as a sequel to the novel by Edgar Poe - to whom it is dedicated -, Les Aventures d'Arthur Gordon Pym, published in 1838.

Beautiful first plate, corners very lightly folded including a little rubbing. Very good spine with clear golds, the spine-ends a little sagging with a small tear the length of the joint. Second board in beautiful condition with 2 marks. A trace of a very pale water stain in the margin of the first 10 leaves fading away. Overall, rather clean but some leaves with scattered browning.

Spine very lightly faded, gold on the interior of the badge on the first board a little faded, two lower corners flattened. A loose section, a corner piece missing skillfully filled on the title page and a marginal restoration of the paper on page 33.
Le Rayon vert (The Green Ray) is a sentimental novel inspired by the Scottish legend of the eponymous phenomenon: it allows those who have observed it to see clearly in their hearts as well as in those of others.

Altogether very fresh; a few pale spots to margins. Light cracks to inside joints, without damaging the working of the binding, the book being solid and intact. Small marginal tear of 1 cm...

First separate edition, illustrated by Gavarni with 20 plates and 40 vignettes. The text had originally appeared in Le diable à Paris, a collective volume to which Balzac contributed several texts.
First edition of Louis Huart's work illustrated with 50 vignettes by Cham, published without date in 1846.
Contemporary half red shagreen binding. Spine with false raised bands handsomely decorated. Head and tail rolls. Corners slightly rubbed, one turned in. Some pale foxing on half-titles and indexes. Tinted paper for Paris marié, white for Paris au bal. Good copy.

Paper perfectly fresh, completely free of foxing. Cohesive and solid volume.
