Publisher's binding in half burgundy cloth, smooth blank spine, sand boards illustrated with Maby's drawings, white endpapers have likely been changed. Three small and light watermarks at the top and bottom of the first board, a pinched joint, three scratches in the margins of the boards, the letters making up the title on the title page have been coloured by a child, the colouring has been partially erased but some light markings remain that have bled through onto the following white endpapers. Rare.

Light scratching to the boards, four small tears on the last three coloured plates and one more significant tear on the page of text opposite the sixth plate, the illustrated title page includes figures that have been coloured by a child, which have bled through on the following white endpaper. Rare.

Our copy includes after page 210 "The words of Professor Martin Thausing", which is consistent with the description of the "Bibliography of Belgium" of 1897 (No. 1457) and seems to be the first edition.
