    Half red shagreen binding with corners, spine with five raised bands set with gilt fillets decorated with double gilt compartments adorned at angles and centers with gilt floral motifs, some traces of rubbing to spine, gilt fillet frame on marbled paper boards, marbled endpapers and pastedowns, top edge gilt, corners slightly bumped, bookplate pasted on pastedown, contemporary binding.
    Handsome copy despite a shadow left by a bookmark on pages 218-219.

    Autograph manuscripts and typescripts by André-Ferdinand Hérold for the libretto of Zadig, musical comedy premiered on June 24, 1938 at the Opéra-Comique with music by Jean Dupérier.
    Several hundred typewritten and manuscript pages, numerous corrections in ink and pencil in the librettist's hand, stamp of the general agency for dramatic and literary copies H. Compère on the front cover and first endpaper of the paperbound copy.
    The paperbound copy contains a complete version of the libretto and all the ensembles are incomplete fragments of several states of the text which, as indicated by a note from a previous owner, cannot be reclassified in logical order. Some fragments appear to be drafts of poems.
