The lack of moderation by Dominique de Colonia in his compilation of the dictionary caused his book to be placed on the Index as early as 1749, the same happened with the additions by Louis Patouillet, applying the thesis of Jansenism to Catholic authors and even to Madame de Sévigné (an ample explanation of the pernicious influence of the Letters is given). Each dictionary entry is followed by a critique of the work and a summary. An index allows one to find all authors.

Novi de Cabeirac studies in his memoir the effects of the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes. We know he was fanatically intolerant, even though his study of demography and economics is serious.
The second memoir pleads the cause of Protestants before the royal power and denounces the horror of the crimes that were perpetrated against them.
The identity of the author is still debated. The work is sometimes attributed to Antoine Court, a central figure of the Desert Church. Born in 1695 on the Ardèche borders of the Cévennes and died in 1760 in Lausanne, he was at the heart of the dramas engendered by the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. A clandestine preacher, then consecrated pastor by a former Camisard, Pierre Corteiz, Antoine Court was, after the Cevennes revolt, one of the restorers of French Protestantism. Denouncing prophetism, he organized at Montèzes, near Monoblet, in the Cevennes region, the first synod of the Desert in order to reestablish the discipline of the reformed churches. Hostile to violence and an advocate of passive resistance, Court defended throughout his life the cause of the French Protestant community and freedom of conscience. To this end, he published the Patriote Français et Impartial in 1752. In his Histoire des troubles des Cévennes, published in the year of his death, he established himself as one of the first reformed historians of the Camisards war. Antoine Court had therefore published in 1752 this book entitled Le patriote français et impartial in response to the letter from the Bishop of Agen to the Controller General Machault d'Arnouville, promoting an attitude of intolerance toward the reformed. It is true that the Lettre d'un patriote, circulated four years later, presents some similarities with the previous work. Besides the word patriote which raises questions, certain parts seem very close. But what reasons could have pushed Antoine Court to reiterate four years later his defense of the Protestant community in a quite similar work though much more reduced?" The third memoir wants to vindicate the Catholic religion and attacks the writings and persons who dare to defend Protestants, and denies the negative effects of the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes. It is in defense against the second memoir of this collection: Lettre d'un patriote, that Novi de Caveirac will write his famous Apologie de Louis XIV.

First French edition of these two works by Swedenborg, undoubtedly translated from Latin (Amor Conjugialis 1768) by Guyton de Morveau and not Brumore. Rare. As a supplement at the end Of the commerce of the soul and the body: Of the white horse spoken of in Revelation.

A collection of the two works (and the first two of this kind) among the most famous of the Swedish spiritualist and mystic philosopher Swedenborg. It was after having been a renowned scientist among the most conscientious that he experienced a mystical crisis around the age of 56 where he testified to having had mystical dreams and visions in which he discussed with angels and spirits; it is to these experiences that we owe these two books. The curious treatise (his first work of this kind) was accused of heresy (Mohammedanism) and the author's mental health was questioned. The author develops in these two books his mystical theories on the union of souls. One cannot separate in Swedenborg the scientist from the mystical visionary. He was quickly considered a universal genius, as evidenced by the considerable influence he had, notably in France on the writers of the romantic generation, Balzac, who quotes him abundantly, and who drew from him nourishment for his theory of desire, Baudelaire, Cazotte and elsewhere in William Blake, Jung... and even in Japan, in the book: The Buddha of the North.

Otto Aicher (1628-1705), Benedictine and professor, was an Austrian playwright, professor of rhetoric and grammarian, but also a historian. In this book he gathers epitaphs from all periods, notably of Roman emperors and kings, the whole constituting a theatre of death as epitaphs are like voices from beyond the grave, the epitaph being the last sign that the dead leave to posterity. Very interesting for measuring the relationship to death throughout history. Brunet I, 118.

The work is anonymous, but the preface leaves no doubt about the book's author; the translator appears to be Abbé Dinouard, who had published an Abrégé de l'Embryologie sacrée in 1775. A very interesting and remarkable reflection on caesarean operations and on the nature of the living in human beings. This is undoubtedly the first time that the foetus, or premature babies, were considered as living beings. It is striking to note that it was religious thought that led to reconsidering embryology through its conception of the living being
