First edition limited to 1500 copies, ours being one of the 1350 copies on laid paper with the 11 plates printed separately on handmade paper from Arches manufacturers and all illustrations in color and black printed on the text paper. Publisher's chemise in full ecru cloth stamped in gilt with wheat ear motifs, watered silk flaps. Cover of illustrated paper with a design matching the chemise. Eleven engravings printed separately presented under printed tissue guards, 32 headpieces, 9 vignettes in the text and 19 tailpieces by Eugène Burnand. Some surface wear to the chemise and numerous foxing marks on the plates.
